Water Bore FAQs

What is a water bore?

A water bore is a hole drilled into the ground to reach an aquifer, the layer of water-bearing rock or sand below the surface. A pump then brings that groundwater up for use on your property.

How does a water bore work?

We drill down to the water table, line the hole with casing and a screen to keep it stable and clean, then install a pump. The pump draws water from the aquifer up to your tanks, irrigation, or household supply.

How much does a water bore cost in NSW?

Cost depends on depth, ground conditions, and the pump you need, so every site is different. We quote after a free assessment. And if we drill and don’t hit water, we don’t charge.

Do I need a licence for a water bore in NSW?

In most cases, yes. Stock and domestic bores need a basic landholder right or licence, and irrigation or commercial use needs a water access licence. We organise the paperwork through Water NSW for you.

What are the minimum construction requirements for water bores?

Water bores in Australia must be built to Australian Standard AS 2016/3189. We construct and develop every bore to that standard, using proper casing, screens, and gravel packing, and complete the required Form A documentation.

How deep can you drill?

Our rigs drill to 2,000m, with tooling for holes up to 1,200mm in diameter. We match the rig and method to your site, whether that’s a tight residential block or a large commercial property.

What areas do you service?

We service all of New South Wales and the ACT, including regional and acreage properties.
